1963 Lincoln Continental
Purchased in the fall of 2003 from the second owner's son, who told me the
first owner had been a Ford executive with a 2 year lease.
The second owner kept it in excellent shape until he accidentally backed it
into a post in the 80's...not having access to the fuel filler, he garaged
it.
The second owner's son inherited the car...beginning repair of the rear damage
and claiming the engine, transmission & brakes to be rebuilt.
After a lengthy search for a "survivor", I found this black California
license plate car to be an excellent unrestored example of the marque.
I finished repair of the rear damage, repainting the trunk lid to match the
original Nassau Beige and replacing the rear bumper.
I then purchased 5 new radial tires, replaced the gas tank & sending unit
and rebuilt the fuel pump and carburator.
The car drives very well, although the mufflers are louder than they should
be...no overheating or other drivability issues known.
I installed a trailer hitch & air shocks in order to move my boat around
the yard, but I've never actually towed anything.
The drivers front seat upholstery is worn and has a small tear; otherwise
the interior is in very good original condition.
The interior chrome is by far the best I saw out of every car I looked at
when I was searching for a Lincoln in decent shape.
The air conditioner works, though the compressor is loud...all windows work
from the drivers seat, the seat does not.
It has a few scrapes and dings as well as lacquer checking on the passenger
side front fender, but its mostly original paint is very presentable.
Reluctantly considering sale because I simply don't have the time to use it
and it's a shame for it to just sit in the garage!
It would be an excellent car to enjoy driving now, while working to make it
perfect over time.
